Review of Becket's Restaurant and Grill in Leeds

Becket's Restaurant and Grill in Leeds

Just a mere 10-minutes drive from Harrogate in North Yorkshire is the pretty little market town of Knaresborough. Situated on the River Nidd, this lovely town is home to some of the countries most fascinating attractions including Mother Shipton’s Cave, the House in the Rock and Knaresborough Castle. It is also home to much-loved establishment Becket’s Restaurant and Grill in Leeds. Head Chef Luke Butler has created an innovative, seasonal menu showcasing the very best of British produce. Many dietary needs are also catered for here such as vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free so do please speak with the staff about any personal requirements. Everything about Becket’s Restaurant is set up to offer guests a premium dining experience. Whether you want to order a pre-dinner drink from their extensive cocktail menu or head straight for the main event in a cosy table by the exposed brick fireplace, the warm and friendly staff will look after your every need.

As the menu is seasonal it is subject to change regularly to ensure diners get only the very best, most flavoursome dishes. When available starters can include pumpkin seed crusted coley fillet, squash, fresh tomato and asparagus, pressed rabbit terrine, carrot chutney, carrot salad and toast or dill gnocchi with mixed wild mushrooms and toasted hazelnuts.  Many British restaurants in Leeds take advantage of the incredible produce available locally and Becket’s Restaurant and Grill is no exception. Fresh seafood from the Yorkshire coast, as well as game, meat and fresh vegetables all feature strongly on the carefully crafted menu. Indulge in slow cooked pork belly with braised red cabbage, fondant potato and spinach or the sautéed loin of English rabbit and braised leg with mustard mash and kale. When seasonally available the roast venison haunch, grilled scallions, truffled cauliflower cheese and jus is a popular choice.

Vegetarians have a great selection of dishes including the pancake filled with Yorkshire curd cheese, leeks and asparagus; aubergine, potato and Wensleydale cheese whole grain galette with crème fraiche or the beetroot risotto with creamy avocado puree, baked feta and red pesto. Meat and seafood enthusiasts can enjoy a selection of delights from the grill such as the decadent seafood grill featuring rock bream, king prawns, monkfish, crab claw, queen scallops, samphire and garlic butter. A variety of steaks, sourced from local Nidderdale farms, are also on offer and diners can choose from sirloin, rib eye, fillet and the luxurious chateaubriand (for 2 people), a 16oz prime cut fillet steak. All steaks are served with chunky chips, pea shoot salad, onion rings, tomato, mushroom and choice of sauce. With red wine jus, wild mushroom, green peppercorn, garlic butter and creamy Harrogate blue cheese on offer a decision may be tricky!

Do make sure you leave plenty of room for dessert. Becket’s like many restaurants in Leeds have an entertaining selection of fun and cheeky desserts guaranteed to tempt your taste buds. Steamed jam roly-poly with poached baby pears and milk ice cream is a retro delight, while beetroot treacle sponge pudding and ice cream is an unusual yet delicious treat. A light bite lunch menu as well as a 1-2 course set menu offer great value and choices, while the Sunday lunch menu gives diners the perfect excuse to indulge and avoid the washing up! Becket’s Restaurant and Grill is a fabulous restaurant in a beautiful location and makes the perfect spot for a romantic meal or celebration with friends or family.
