Review of Kendell's Bistro Restaurant in Leeds

Kendell's Bistro Restaurant in Leeds

Walking into Kendell's Restaurant in Leeds is enough to take your breath away. Soft, flickering light courtesy of the candles carefully placed in empty champaign bottles on each table, romantic gilded mirrors casually leaning against the wall and artful murals dotted throughout give the sensation of another time and place. Once diners have feasted their eyes on the beautiful décor, they can turn their attention to the French inspired menu, which is equally as stunning. With head chef and owner Steve Kendell at the helm it should come as no surprise that Kendell’s Bistro has won awards including ‘Leeds Best Restaurant’ in 2010. Trained in Paris, Dordogne as well as gaining experience at the Michelin starred Box Tree restaurant, Steve has created an enticing menu that diners can’t help but fall in love with.

The vibrant art district in Leeds city centre is the ideal location for this popular restaurant. Located opposite the Leeds College of Music, Kendell’s is perfect for an easy-going yet sophisticated continental style lunch, romantic dinner, celebration or pre-theatre treat. Using fresh, seasonal produce ensures every mouthful is packed with flavour and only the finest ingredients. There is no question that Kendell’s Bistro is one of the best French restaurants in Leeds! Lovers of French classics will be delighted to see coq au vin, boeuf bourguignon and poulet l’estragon (chicken in white wine and cream with spinach and tarragon). The canard aux cassis; duck breast with black currants and crème de cassis, comes highly recommended but as only seasonal produce is used the menu changes frequently.

The pre-theatre menu is available Tuesday-Thursday 5:30-8:00pm and Friday-Saturday 5:30-7:00pm. At only £16.95 for a 3-course meal, or £22.95 with a ½ bottle of house wine, it’s an exceptional offer. Begin your night with homemade pate, classic French onion soup or a salad of goat cheese, roast beetroot, roast garlic and walnuts. To follow the salmon in puff pastry with spinach and tomato buerre blanc is hugely popular, but meat lovers may want to try the ‘hachis parmentier’, ox cheek, vegetables and mashed potato in a red wine jus. A wide range of desserts is on offer to tempt your sweet tooth and include, crème brulee, tart aux citron and praline de noix. Restaurants in Leeds that offer a set pre-theatre menu of this standard are few and far between.

From Tuesday, December 3rd to Saturday, December 22nd Kendell’s Bistro in Leeds is offering an incredible Christmas Party Menu for Lunch (£24.50) and Dinner (£29.50). Why not celebrate the festive season in style with delicious food lovingly prepared with only the best of ingredients. Starters include French black pudding with apple puree and red onion confit, or the smooth duck liver pate flavoured with cognac. The mains are mouthwatering and those keen on turkey will be happy to see roast breast of turkey with chestnut seasoning, crispy bacon and cranberry sauce. It’s the perfect gift for the food lover in your life!
